The Allure of Peggy’s Cove: A Hidden Gem in Nova Scotia

Let me tell you, I would be personally offended if you live in Nova Scotia or visited Halifax and haven’t been to Peggy’s Cove. You may have seen many lighthouses, but this one is something you can’t truly imagine until you visit. It’s often said to be the edge of the land, and you can feel the pure vibe of the Atlantic Ocean. Moreover, the sunset view is incredible if you plan to go in the late afternoon. One caution: the rocks can be dangerous, so be careful not to get too close. Oh, and don’t forget to capture some memorable photos.

What is the Swissair Flight 111 Memorial?

Location: The memorial is situated near Peggy’s Cove, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. It is positioned to offer a view of the crash site, which is about 5 miles (8 kilometres) offshore.

Swissair Flight 111: The flight was a scheduled international passenger flight from John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City to Cointrin Airport in Geneva, Switzerland. The McDonnell Douglas MD-11 aircraft crashed into the Atlantic Ocean due to an onboard fire, resulting in the loss of all 229 passengers and crew.

Investigation: The subsequent investigation by the Transportation Safety Board of Canada determined that faulty wiring ignited flammable insulation above the cockpit, leading to the crash. The crew was cleared of any wrongdoing
